Liverpool, the league’s leader, will host struggling Newcastle at Anfield on Monday evening for the 20th round of the Premier League.
Liverpool had a disappointing performance last season, finishing fifth and only qualifying for the Europa League. This season, however, they’re showing significant improvement, making it to the Semi-Finals of the Carabao Cup and the 1/8 Finals of the Europa League. Their most notable achievement so far has been securing the top spot in the Premier League following Arsenal’s defeat against West Ham. The Reds currently appear to be in strong contention for the championship.
Last year, Newcastle had a standout season, securing 4th place and marking their first Champions League appearance since the 2002/03 season. Their performance this season has been steady, but the beloved Magpies experienced a major setback in the last month, losing six out of their last seven games. In this period, they exited the Champions League and Carabao Cup and slipped significantly in the league standings. Currently, they are in 9th place with 29 points, a full eight points behind the coveted 4th spot.
Liverpool vs Newcastle United pick: Liverpool to win and cover the -1 AH spread
Excluding a defeat to Royale Union SG, during which Klopp switched up the squad, Liverpool has remained unbeaten in their last ten games across all competitions. They have played well overall, but their performance at Anfield has been exceptional. Out of 14 games in all competitions, the Reds have secured 12 victories and 2 draws. The team has been extraordinarily impressive at home, scoring a total of 41 goals &— which is nearly three per game. Furthermore, 11 of these 12 victories had a winning margin of two or more goals.
Newcastle United’s performance is currently dismal, having lost six out of their past seven matches. Their dreadful run can be attributed to significant issues with injuries and suspensions. It appears that they lack the necessary depth to surmount these challenges.
Newcastle performed poorly on the road throughout the season, securing only two wins in 14 games, and their performance appears to be deteriorating as the season moves forward. Now, facing the league’s top team, anticipating a favorable outcome seems challenging.
In the inaugural head-to-head match in August, Liverpool secured a 2:1 victory even after an early red card. Given the significant disparity in their current forms and playing at Anfield, it’s reasonable to predict a comfortable victory for the Reds against the underperforming Magpies.

Liverpool team news
Konstantinos Tsimikas is the latest addition to the injury list, having sustained a collarbone injury against Arsenal, causing him to miss the Burnley match. The left full-back is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of a month. With another left full-back, Andrew Robertson, also injured, Klopp is likely to opt for Joe Gomez on the left side, as he did in the preceding match.
In addition to Tsimikas and Roberson, who we previously noted, the team will also be without Stefan Bajcetic, Joel Matip, Ben Doak, and Thiago because of injuries. Alexis Mac Allister, however, may return after being absent for six consecutive games due to a knee injury.

Newcastle United team news
Jamaal Lascelles, the captain of the team, got injured during the match against Luton and was forced to leave the field after 36 minutes. The 30-year-old central defender was absent from the previous game against Nottingham and is expected to be sidelined for at least a few more weeks. Therefore, it is likely that Botman and Schar will be starting in defense.
Additionally, players who were absent from previous games due to injuries will continue to be sidelined. This includes their top goalkeeper, Nick Pope, as well as Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, and Jacob Murphy.
Additionally, Sandro Tonali will remain sidelined due to a suspension after breaching the betting rules.
