Who has the intention of purchasing Manchester United?
The supporters of Manchester United have been eager to discover Malcolm Glazer go since he purchased the team in 2005. Manchester United had been debt-free since the 1930s, when American businessman James Gibson saved the team from failure, before Glazer took over. The loan rose to£ 660 million right away following Glazer’s invasion.
Followers of Manchester United have other issues with the Glazer family besides this one. According to estimates, the club’s proprietors took about£ 1.6 billion from it.
Another issue is that since Alex Ferguson left the team, Manchester United hasn’t been able to win any significant championships. Manchester United won the Champions League, three League Cups, and five Premier League championships in the first eight decades of the Glazer family’s rule. Yet, despite spending about£ 1 billion on the move market since the famous coach retired, Manchester United has just claimed three significant championships.
The Glazer family declared in November 2022 that they were looking to reinvest on, sell the team entirely or in part. After some of the family members sold a portion of their ownership, the Glazer family currently owns 69 % of Manchester United. The other four Glazer sisters are willing to offer every share they own in Manchester United, but Joel and Avram Glaze are reportedly eager to remain as a part of the new ownership.
The Glazer family’s estimated value is closer to£ 6 billion, despite reports that the club is worth between£ 4 and£ 5 billion.
Following the announcement in November, a dozen names started to come up as potential customers. Jim Ratcliffe, the owner of the chemicals company INEOS and the richest man in Great Britain, appears to be the most significant. Ratcliffe, who was born in Oldham, a city in Greater Manchester, has always supported Manchester United. Through his business INEOS, the British billionaire now owns the Formula 1 group Mercedes in addition to his two football leagues, OGC Nice and Lausanne-Sport.
A charge for Manchester United was confirmed by INEOS on February 18. On behalf of the fans and the larger group, the company stated in the declaration that it wished to serve as the club’s long-term custodians. INEOS stated in the same statement that they wanted to buy Manchester United in order to restore their position as the world’s top team.
Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani’s investment team is the other potential user. Sheikh Jassim announced plans to restore the team to its former glory, both on and off the field, following the standard charge. He confirmed in the same statement that the organization is considering funding the stadium, football clubs, training facilities, and general equipment as well.
We’ll see who takes over in the upcoming months, but it appears that Manchester United fans can unwind knowing that the Glazer family’s rights is likely to come to an end.
