Contents
- Competition: Liga Portugal
- Date: Monday, 12th February 2024
- Kickoff: 20:15 UTC / 21:15 CET
- Venue: Estádio Municipal de Arouca (Arouca)
Arouca had an outstanding performance last year, ending up in the 5th position and earning a spot in the Europa Conference League Qualifiers. However, they got off to a terrible start this season, finding themselves at the bottom of the league after 12 rounds. Their fortune turned around when they switched coaches, propelling them to the 8th position swiftly. Currently, they are seven points clear of the relegation zone. Given their recent streak of three consecutive victories, there are certainly grounds for optimism going into their match against the heavily favored Porto.
Historically, FC Porto has consistently been among Portugal’s top teams, often ranking first or second for most seasons. Although their performance this season has been slightly lower, placing them third and six points behind the leading team, Benfica, they have still shown exceptional play in the Champions League. They’ve reached the knockout stage where they are set to compete against Arsenal.
Arouca vs Porto pick: Over 2.5 goals
Arouca is known for their high-scoring games, having surpassed 2.5 goals eight times in their last nine matches! Recently, their offense has been on fire, netting nine goals in just three games. Given their current form, I believe they stand a good chance of scoring against Porto.
During the season, Porto’s offensive performance didn’t match up to the top two teams, Benfica and Sporting. However, recently their scoring has improved dramatically, with 14 goals in their last five games, an average of 2.8 per game. We think they can score at least a few goals. However, their away defense has been less impressive. Out of 17 away games in all competitions, they only managed five clean sheets, a mere 29%.
Given the impressive goal-scoring prowess of both teams, we anticipate a game featuring at least three goals, with a high probability of each team scoring.

Arouca team news
Following a 2:1 victory against Portimonense, Coach Daniel Sousa expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance during a press conference. He commended their ability to devise sufficient strategies to secure the win. Sousa also attributed the game’s outcome to two swift goals scored at the beginning of the second half.
Vitinho, Quaresma, Nino Galovic, and Yanis Hamache, who did not participate in the previous games, should still be benched for the match against Porto. Additionally, Coach Sousa, who was given a red card in the last game, will also be absent from the Porto game.

Porto team news
Zaidu, the left full-back, is representing Nigeria in the ongoing AFCON, where they are set to meet Ivory Coast in the finals. However, he has primarily been a substitute for Wendell. Concurrently, Mehdi Taremi is expected to be back in time for the Arouca match, following Qatar’s victory over Iran in the Asian Cup semi-finals on 7th February.
Ivan Marcano and Marko Grujic should continue to be sidelined due to injuries.
