The emotions and excitement of the Indonesian MotoGP 2023 had not faded yet when the Australian Grand Prix brought a huge number of surprises. Even we at GetMindApps were genuinely amazed at how things unfolded on Phillip Island. So let's do a little rewind of how one of the most anticipated Grand Prix of the season unfolded.

Schedule changing: wisdom or over-cautiousness?

Due to the weather forecast, Race Direction decided to update the schedule for the MotoGPâ„¢ Guru by Gryfyn Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, so the main race was moved to Saturday the 21st of October at 15:10 local time and Tissot Sprint received the updated schedule spot on. It was a wise decision after MotoGP Japan 2023, which was shortened because of the downpour.

In the Saturday qualification, Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) became a highlight of the show with a dominant performance that saw him destroy his previous lap record. The Spaniard’s 1:27.246 resulted in him taking back-to-back pole positions and he was a favorite for the win on the MotoGP online betting sites. The middle spot of the front row was taken by Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing).

The last front-row spot was taken by Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), who put in a stellar job to scrap his way through Q1. And here came the finest hour of bookies that accept bitcoin, because the “Pecco or Martinator?” question was still open.

And thus began the four-hour wait.

Unexpected Ducati pilot on the move

The lack of unexpected news was notable, with all the principal leaders occupying the front row. Fans speculated whether Martin or Bagnaia would clinch the victory. However, history was made by Johann Zarco from Prima Pramac Racing with his unprecedented backflip move. Zarco spectacularly claimed his first-ever MotoGP victory, snatching it from his teammate and title contender, Jorge Martin, with a bold, clean, and impeccably timed move on the final lap.

Such an unexpected scenario heated the situation on the best odds betting sites. Such a bold move from the Frenchman helped Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) too, who passed his main rival by storm.

Things were escalating unfavorably for Martin, especially after Fabio Di Giannantonio from Gresini Racing MotoGPâ„¢ and Brad Binder from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing decided to take advantage of the situation. This resulted in a 27-point difference between Martin and Bagnaia. Now, all of Martin’s hopes relied on Sunday's Tissot Sprint.

Sure, he couldn't get any huge advantage even with the win, but still, he could at least cut the gap. And so, sportsbooks with live betting were overheated in the wait of the classic Tissot Sprint action.

At one point, Johann Zarco became the center of attention as he registered his first MotoGP victory, thus making history. With this win, he relinquished his record of being the rider with the most MotoGP podium finishes without a victory.

The highlight of the thrilling Saturday race was Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Racing MotoGP) achieving his first-ever premier class podium. This marked a farewell of sorts for both him and Zarco as they will be leaving their teams by the end of the season. Zarco is set to join LCR Honda, while Di Giannantonio’s future remains uncertain. Notably, in 2024, his spot in Gresini Racing will be filled by Marc Marquez.

Does this mean that the Italian will be squeezing the most out of his bike for the rest of this season to show what he's capable of? Perhaps sports betting companies should take a closer look at this young rider and calculate the odds of another podium.

The Sunday's Cancellation

A huge list of Australian bookmakers expected an ultimate action Sunday Tissot Sprint, but the forecast worsened throughout the day — and Race Direction has obliged the cancellation of further track activity following the conclusion of the Moto2 race and breaking Martin's Sunday hopes.

The Saturday Grand Prix race at Phillip Island, a truly historic and instantly iconic event, has come to an end. Johann Zarco has made history with his first MotoGPâ„¢ victory, permanently marking his name in the annals of the sport. Bagnaia has once again proven his incredible talent and solidified his status as the favorite among all popular betting platforms, although his odds of winning fluctuate greatly from race to race. Despite Martin’s impressive speed, he wasn’t able to take the lead in the title fight this time.

Stay tuned! The MotoGP will return for the OR Thailand Grand Prix, taking place from October 27th to 29th.
