Torino and Napoli, with only a four-point difference in Serie A, are prepared to kick off the first weekend of 2024 with a determined mindset. They will face off at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino on Sunday afternoon.
Torino vs Napoli Betting Tips: Under 2.5
Even though there is still one more round to go before the season reaches its exact midpoint, it’s already clear that Napoli won’t be able to defend the Scudetto they won last season. This is because they are currently trailing the Serie A leaders, Inter, by a seemingly unbeatable 17 points.
The Southern Italian team is far from being last year’s champion, as evidenced by their already made coaching change. If Walter Mazzari, who has only achieved one win in the last five top-tier games, doesn’t find a solution to the ongoing challenges soon, he could quickly be replaced as coach.
Achieving maximum points for Napoli in the first test of 2024 may not be as easy as it seems. This is especially true considering their visit to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, a stadium notoriously difficult to win at, as evidenced by a record of four wins and the same number of draws, with just one defeat against Inter (0-3).
Additionally, 2024 couldn’t have ended on a worse note for the Partenopei. Following an embarrassing 0-4 loss to Frosinone in the Coppa Italia, they managed to gather only a single point from their last two league matches of the year. They suffered a 0-2 defeat to Roma, and six days later, had to content themselves with a disappointing point from a 0-0 draw against Monza.
It’s evident that Napoli is not just experiencing a temporary slump in recent results, but their attack appears to be ineffective, exceeding 270 minutes without a goal.
Adding to all of this, it’s clear that Napoli’s path to victory in Sunday’s showdown will be challenging, especially given that their attack will be weakened without the presence of talisman Victor Osimhena. Osimhena has been called up to represent his home country, Nigeria, in the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
However, the defense of the reigning Italian champions should not face significant threats as they are up against one of the least effective attacking teams in Serie A. Only Empoli has scored fewer times (10) than Torino (15) this season.
Torino’s matches have been the least enthralling this season, due to a combination of inadequate attacking force and a solid defense line. This is evident as they’ve scored less than 2.5 goals in 13 out of their 18 league games.
With neither team posing a significant danger in the final third of the pitch, our expectation is a hard-fought and closely contested clash that could result in a split of points with a low-scoring outcome.
