When Manchester City and Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense compete in Saudi Arabia on Friday evening, the FIFA Club World Cup trophy will be up for grabs.
This week, Manchester City made their debut in the semi-finals of this competition, and it couldn’t have gone better. They needed a strong response after their Premier League draw with Crystal Palace last weekend, where they lost a two-goal lead. The first half seemed to be heading for a draw, but an own goal from Marius HøibrÃ¥ten put City ahead just before half-time. Second half goals from Mateo KovačiÄ and Bernardo Silva extended their lead to 3-0.
Fluminense entered their semi-final match against African Champions Al Ahly following some lackluster performances in the Brazilian premier league. The team, managed by Fernando Diniz, had suffered two consecutive league losses, letting in four goals in total. However, after their last performance against Al Ahly, they are hopeful about their upcoming match with Man City on Friday.
Manchester City vs Fluminense Betting Tips: Over 2.5 goals
Last season, Manchester City boasted one of the best defences in England’s top-tier football, but this season’s performance has been less stable. The Citizens have let in the second-highest number of goals among the current top four Premier League teams and have only managed a single clean sheet in their last nine matches across all competitions. Out of these nine games, only two concluded with less than 2.5 goals.
Fluminense has demonstrated a strong defence in their recent matches, managing to keep a clean sheet in three out of their last six games. However, they’re up against a much tougher adversary in Man City. Pep Guardiola’s squad has consistently scored at least two goals in six of their past seven matches across all competitions, a trend that is not expected to alter this week.
- Best Tip: Over 2.5 goals
- Manchester City vs Fluminense prediction: 2-1
Manchester City team news
Kevin De Bruyne unexpectedly showed up at Manchester City training on Monday, however, it’s predicted that the Belgian won’t play for the Citizens until next year.
The 32-year-old is accompanied on City’s list of injured players by Erling Haaland and Jérémy Doku, who are respectively dealing with a bone and muscle injury.
After scoring his first goal for the Sky Blues in the semi-final, Mateo KovačiÄ is hoping to maintain his midfield position, while Julián Ãlvarez might return to the final third.

Fluminense team news
Fernando Diniz, the head coach of Fluminense, will once again not have Jorge available, as he has not yet played this season due to a cruciate ligament injury.
The team that defeated Al Ahly in the semi-final is not expected to see many changes, but John Kennedy, who came off the bench to score the second goal in that game, will be vying for a starting position.
