- Competition: Coupe de France, 1/8 Finals
- Date: Wednesday, 7th February 2024

Lyon’s start to the season was decidedly poor, occupying the bottom of the table for the majority of the first 15 rounds. However, a shift in coaching in November brought about an improved performance from Les Gones, allowing them to rise from the danger zone. Currently, they sit in 15th place with 19 points, a mere three points clear of relegation. The club also bolstered their ranks with the addition of new players during the Winter transfer window in a bid to salvage the season. The efforts appear to be bearing fruit. Lyon may not be the formidable team they once were, but they are performing better than their league standing suggests. The Cup presents an opportunity for them to qualify for European competition, an achievement unlikely to come from their league position.
Lille are experiencing a strong season in all their competitions so far. They currently sit 4th in Ligue 1, just a point away from a direct qualifying spot for the Champions League. Although the title seems unachievable, given PSG’s dominance this season, a top-three finish appears quite feasible. The Mastiffs’ main challenge is their performance on the road. At home, they match PSG’s prowess, but on away games, PSG have earned double the points! The Mastiffs also performed impressively in the Europa Conference League, finishing first and securing a place in the 1/8 Finals. However, their away performance in this competition was also notably weaker.
Lyon vs Lille pick: Draw
Lyon has secured victories in six out of the previous eight matches across all competitions. There’s no denying that they’ve started to see success and improve their gameplay. However, it’s worth noting that a significant number of these victories were against less formidable teams, leading us to question their ability to triumph over Lille. That said, we also harbor doubts about Lille’s capabilities, especially considering they will be playing on unfamiliar territory. Throughout the season, the Mastiffs have exhibited superior performance, but their record for away games leaves much to be desired. To date, they’ve managed a draw in nine out of 15 matches across all competitions, a staggering 60%!
Last season, these teams also squared off in the Cup 1/8 Finals, where the match ended in a 2:2 draw in regular time. Moreover, out of their last three head-to-head games, two ended in a draw. Given this trend, a draw seems to be the most likely outcome for this Cup match.

Lyon team news
Johann Lepenant is expected to be the only player on the team sidelined due to injury. A knee injury has kept him off the field for the past 11 games.
The club has been quite engaged in the winter transfer period, acquiring seven players which include Nemanja Matic, Malick Fofana, Gift Orban, Orel Mangala, Adryelson, Lucas Perry, and Said Benrahma. However, due to an odd situation, Benrahma cannot play. West Ham apparently failed to submit the required paperwork punctually, and as a result, the 28-year-old winger will be absent from his second match at Lyon.
