Girona has arguably been the most intriguing team in Europe and globally. Their current season has been nothing short of a fairytale, leading to most people drawing comparisons between them and Leicester during their 2015/16 season, when they clinched the Premier League title. As it stands, Girona occupies the 2nd spot, but they’re on par with 1st-placed Real Madrid, both having 35 points after 14 rounds.
The glory days when Valencia consistently ranked among the top teams in Spain and regularly competed in Europe are long past. Just last year, the Bats narrowly avoided relegation, finishing 16th, a mere two points clear of the danger zone. Although they are performing better this season, they are still trailing by six points from a European position and a substantial 16 points behind their upcoming opponent, Girona.
Girona vs Valencia pick: Girona to win
Girona’s performance has been commendable, with victories in 11 out of 14 games, translating to a winning rate of 78.6%. As we have passed the first third of the season, attributing their success to mere luck is no longer plausible. Girona have been in excellent form, and prior to a draw (1:1) against Atletic Bilbao, they had an impressive six-game winning streak.
Valencia enjoyed a solid run of form in October and early November, going five games unbeaten. However, this streak was against relatively weak competition, with the exception of Athletic Bilbao. Following this run, they suffered a loss to Real Madrid and a draw against Celta at home, a game where Celta were arguably the better team. Remarkably, Valencia failed to have a single shot on goal during the entire 90 minutes, a feat that, according to Spanish media, has only happened three times at Mestalla since the 2003/04 season. Valencia’s away performances have been less impressive, particularly in defense, conceding 15 goals in seven games.
Girona triumphed with a 1:0 victory in their last head-to-head match at Estadio Municipal de Montilivi. Based on both teams’ performance this season, any result other than a Girona win would be unexpected for us.

Girona team news
Girona’s star player, Artem Dovbyk, sat out the previous game against Athletic Bilbao due to a calf injury and is expected to be sidelined for approximately a month. The 26-year-old forward has had a standout season, with seven goals and five assists to his name.
In addition to Dovbyk, the team will be without several players due to long-term injuries, including Borja Garcia, Juan Carlos, Joel Roca Casals, Ricard Artero, and Toni Villa.
Michel, the coach of Girona, was declared La Liga’s manager of the month for November, having secured seven out of a possible nine points.

Valencia team news
Following a goalless draw against Celta Vigo at Mestalla, Coach Ruben Baraja addressed the media. Despite not winning, he expressed a measure of satisfaction with the result, acknowledging that Celta Vigo effectively thwarted their efforts. He defended his players saying, “We gave it our best shot. The players cannot be faulted for their attitude, ambition, or their drive to win. We may not have been as sharp as we usually are, but the opposition also defended well and didn’t allow us any space,” added the coach.
Coach Baraja is expected to face no new injuries or suspessions for the forthcoming game. Alberto Mari and Andre Almeida, absent from previous games due to injuries, are likely to continue being benched.
