The AFCON quarter-finals slot is at stake at the Stade Laurent Pokou on Sunday evening, with seven-time champions Egypt facing off against the underdogs, DR Congo.
Egypt vs DR Congo Betting Tips: Draw / BTTS
The round of sixteen tie on Sunday features all the characteristics of a closely contested event, as both teams have proven hard to defeat in the initial stages of this competition.
Egypt came to the Stade Laurent Pokou after drawing in all three of their group stage matches against Mozambique, Ivory Coast, and Cabo Verde. Notably, all three matches ended in 2:2 draws. Egypt has now amassed a streak of seven consecutive draws in the AFCON finals matches since 2022.
Similarly, DR Congo has made it to the last sixteen by securing draws in all their group stage games. Sébastien Desabre’s team obtained equal points in consecutive games against Zambia, Morocco, and Tanzania.
Given that both nations have resulted in a draw for their three group stage matches, it is highly likely that another draw may be considered at a reasonable price.
Although Egypt has historically dominated matches against DR Congo, their team appears less formidable without their star player, Mo Salah. Their performance in the group stages was less than impressive, and the seven-time AFCON victors will need to significantly enhance their gameplay to outdo a DR Congo team that has shown notable improvement in recent years.
Considering Egypt’s three consecutive 2:2 draws at these finals, BTTS certainly stands a chance. Moreover, in two out of three group stage matches, Congo also experienced BTTS. Is another 2:2 draw on Sunday in the cards? It wouldn’t be a surprising outcome.
Ultimately, I fancy this one to go the distance so the draw has to be the best for Sunday’s contest at the Stade Laurent Pokou.

For Sunday’s round of sixteen matchup against Egypt, Edo Kayembe is the only injury worry for DR Congo.
Even though Cedric Bakambu has shown some mediocre performances in the group phase, he is expected to keep leading the attack, with assistance from Brentford’s Yoan Wissa.
