While the younger generation may not consider DR Congo among the top African football countries, this central African nation has won two Africa Cup of Nations titles in 1968 and 1974. Although DR Congo has not had many successes since then, they did reach the semifinals nine years ago. In the most recent Africa Cup of Nations, DR Congo participated in four matches, all of which ended in a draw within the standard 90 minutes. In the 1/8 final, they tied 1-1 with Egypt, but showcased impressive skills in a penalty shootout, advancing to the quarterfinal.
Guinea achieved its greatest success in the Africa Cup of Nations in 1976, when they were runners-up to Morocco. Since then, their top performances include five appearances in the quarterfinals, including their result this year. Kaba Diawara’s team managed to advance to the knockout stage as third in their group, and then delivered a surprise 1-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea. The teams were bracing for an additional 30 minutes of play, but Mohamed Bayo clinched the victory with a goal scored just half a minute before the end of the second half’s stoppage time. Guinea now has the opportunity to vie for their first semifinal place since 1976.
DR Congo vs Guinea pick: Under 2.5 goals
It’s interesting to note that every match between DR Congo and Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations has ended with two or less goals. Given this pattern, it’s safe to assume that Friday’s match will likely follow suit, making a bet of under 2.5 goals a safe choice for this event.
