Two Championship teams, Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday, are set to compete in the FA Cup 1/16 Finals replay match at Coventry Building Society Arena in Coventry on Tuesday evening.
Coventry narrowly missed reaching the Premier League last season, losing to Luton Town in the Playoffs Finals after a penalty shootout. However, this season saw the Sky Blues off to a poor start, teetering on the edge of the danger zone after 17 rounds. Despite the initial struggles, the team managed to improve their performance and are now nearing the playoffs. Currently, they are in 7th place with 44 points and 30 rounds, just one point away from the playoffs. However, they have played one game more than Hull City, who currently holds the 6th position.
Sheffield Wednesday was promoted from League One last year, but there’s a strong possibility they may be heading back unless something changes quickly. Presently, the beloved Owls are 23rd in the standings, having earned 23 points from 30 rounds, which puts them eight points behind the safety zone. Even though they aren’t significantly far from the safe zone, their recent performance is worrisome, as they’ve only managed to secure two points from their last five matches in all competitions.
Coventry vs Sheffield Wednesday pick: Coventry to win and cover the -1 AH spread
Coventry had been performing exceptionally well, remaining unbeaten in 12 consecutive games across all competitions. However, their streak was broken when they lost 2:1 to Norwich in an away game. The loss can be attributed mainly to the red card they received. But considering it’s just one game, against a strong team, on their home ground and with a player down, they can certainly be excused for this loss.
Conversely, Sheffield Wednesday is performing poorly, having only earned two points in their past five games. Their away performance has been particularly dismal this season, with losses in 12 out of 15 games, or 80% of the time. Therefore, it’s difficult to anticipate a favorable outcome against a proficient Championship team.
Prior to the FA Cup game, which ended in a 1:1 draw, Coventry had twice defeated these teams in the league &— they won 2:0 at their home ground and 2:1 when playing away. Given the disparity in the teams’ performances, the outcomes of their prior head-to-head matches, and Sheffield’s poor performance on the road, we are confident that the Sky Blues will achieve a convincing victory at their home ground.
