- Venue: Tofiq Bahramov Stadium (Baku)
Azerbaijan and Bulgaria are scheduled to face off in an international friendly match at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium on Monday. Both teams aim to enhance their impressive beginnings to 2024.
Azerbaijan vs Bulgaria Betting Tips: X2 (Double chance)
The Milli komanda didn’t have the smooth start to the new year they were hoping for. They faced the challenge of stoppage time before they could finally overcome Mongolia, one of Asia’s less formidable teams, with a hard-fought 1-0 win. The victory was thanks to Bahlul Mustafazada’s decisive goal.
Arif Asadov’s team had full justification to anticipate a more pronounced win, given their overwhelming 30 attempts and control of the game with 73% possession. However, the unexpected absence of a finishing touch was surprising, particularly considering their impressive 3-0 triumph over Sweden in Baku only a few months prior.
The Azerbaijanis, proud of their four consecutive non-competitive wins, are keen to prolong their friendly match victory run. However, their aspirations are overshadowed by a gloomy history in direct encounters with the Bulgarian national team.
So far, Lavovene has not allowed the sting of defeat to overcome them when facing their Monday opponents. They have triumphed in three out of four head-to-head encounters, including two victories in their group doubleheader during the EURO 2016 qualifiers.
Newly-appointed coach Ilian Iliev started the year by emulating his colleague’s exact steps. He guided his national team to their first win since November 16, 2022. They triumphed over the African team Tanzania, thanks to a lone goal from their star player, Kiril Despodov.
Remarkably, since the 55-year-old assumed the coaching role, the Bulgarians have not been defeated in any of the three matches he has overseen. Before the aforementioned friendly victory, they managed to keep Serbia and Hungary at 2-2 draws, even though they conceded late equalizing goals in both games.
Stepping into the new year with the right foot forward, both teams aim to close their March international duties on the same note, but it appears that Bulgaria holds a slight edge in this race, as not only do they possess greater quality on paper, but they have also proven to be a tough puzzle for the Azerbaijanis to solve. All in all, we recommend the safer option and back the Bulgarians on the double chance.

Azerbaijan team news
Fresh off his first call-up to the national team, Neftchi Baku goalkeeper Rza Cafarov earned the starting spot between the sticks in his side’s hard-fought 1-0 victory, but the gloves could be handed over to Shahrudin Mahammadaliyev on Monday.
Injuries have ruled out Daejeon’s defender Anton Kryvotsiuk and Dinamo Zagreb’s attacker Mahir Emreli from participating in their national team duties for the month of March.

Bulgaria team news
Before their first friendly match in March against Tanzania, it was evident that head coach Ilian Iliev would have to do without CSKA Sofia’s right-back Ivan Turitsov due to a “potential” injury concern, yet the 24-year-old managed a solid 19-minute stint in his club’s commanding 4-0 victory last week.
The experienced Ludogorets defender Anton Nedyalkov was also left out of the national team call-up, as he continues his recovery from a rather severe back injury that has kept him off the pitch since the start of the new calendar year.
