The Asian Cup Quarter Finals will see Australia and South Korea competing against each other on a neutral pitch at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, this Friday afternoon.
Australia has emerged as one of the top teams in the Asian & Oceania region. Prior to this Asian Cup, they had a strong showing in the World Cup, making it to the 1/8 Finals before losing 2:1 to the ultimate champions, Argentina. Despite the loss, their performance in the World Cup was commendable, and they’ve maintained this momentum in the Asian Cup as well. Given that they are considered one of the front-runners for the championship title, their impressive performances to date are not unexpected.
South Korea, similar to Australia, had a commendable performance in the last World Cup, making it to the 1/8 Finals where they were defeated by Brazil with a score of 4:1. However, in the current Asian Cup, even with two of the tournament’s biggest stars, Heung-min Son and Min-jae Kim, South Korea has not lived up to expectations in both the group phase and the 1/8 Finals. They did manage to secure a win against Saudi Arabia in the 1/8 Finals through a penalty shootout, after tying the game with a last-minute goal in the 99th minute of extra time.
Australia vs South Korea pick: Both teams to score
Australia has shown impressive offensive strength, scoring at least one goal in every game during the Asian Cup. They’ve maintained this scoring streak in their last seven games across all competitions. Further examining their World Cup performance, they consistently scored at least one goal in each of their four matches, even against formidable opponents such as France, Tunisia, Denmark, and Argentina. We firmly believe that they have the ability to score against South Korea, who have not been particularly impressive in their defensive play during the tournament.
Despite being favorites to win the game, South Korea’s performance in the Asian Cup has been less than impressive, which deters us from placing a bet on them. Their main issue in the Asian Cup has been their poor defensive capabilities, having conceded seven goals with no clean sheet to date. As such, we don’t anticipate that they will manage a clean sheet against Australia. However, South Korea does excel offensively. Given the caliber of their forward players, this is hardly surprising. So far, they’ve scored nine goals, averaging 2.25 per game, and we predict they will score in the upcoming match as well.
Given our observations of these teams’ performances throughout the tournament, we anticipate a very tight match and firmly believe that both teams will succeed in scoring.
